Trip to Lancaster County with Debbie & Ken
Sep 28, 2007, Left Alliston at 8am, crossing the border at 10:28am (half hour wait)On Grand Island at 10:40am we took 290 to 90 but missed our 390 turn off and ended up driving a hour out of our way. Thanks to the help of a tow booth guy we were sent on the right road once again, arriving in Paradise at 7:10pm. We booked into the Best Western on Hwy 30 by the Historic Revere Tavern.

(Temp 75 F)
1:00pm, arrived at the show of "Psalms of David", a musical show following the footsteps of Davids life. (Very uplifting) 3:45pm, arrived at the show of "In the Beginning", a musical show following the life of Adam and Eve. (Powerful) After the shows, we headed off to supper at a nearby Dutch restaurant. We were seated at a long table to share our supper with people from other parts of the country. A couple from New York and a family from Maryland share their conversation with us making this supper a true Dutch experience. Ham, fry chicken, corn, shoe fly pie, butter noodles and much more. |

2007 (Temp 76 F)
After breakfast, we headed off to Strasburg to find the old railroad station. Once there we took a 45 minutes train ride viewing the country side. We sat in first class, stepping back in time to the mid 1800s. This train was used in the movie "The Wild Wild West" starring Will Smith. We spent the rest of the day driving through the Amish countryside. First stop was at Plain & Fancy, a place that we visit in 2006. It has a theatre, gift shop and much more concerning the Amish way of life. We tour through an Amish Village that was made for tourism. We travel through small town with such names as Bird in the Hand and Intercourse. At the Amish Village, we were given direction to find a wooden cover bridge. The direction where to take us off the map and into deep Amish homesteads. Without a map and many missing road signs, we found ourselves driving in circles but far from being lost. This drive was worth it when young and old alike wave to us as we past by many farmlands. We could only travel at slow speeds because of so many horses and buggies. Far too many people do not respect the danger they pose to the Amish people while travelling in their cars. We never did find the wooden cover bridge but enjoy the drive more than words can express. |

| Oct 1, 2007 - Time to head back home, leaving Paradise at 7:00am. This time we did not miss any turnoffs, only stopping for washroom and gas breaks. We arrived in Canada at 3:40pm for a total of 8 hours and 40 minutes drive. We booked into the Quality Inn at Niagara Falls. We took a ride on the Sky Wheel soaring over 175 feet above the Falls. We spent the rest of our evening going to the Casino follow by the sites on Clifton Hill. Supper was at the Garden Buffet inside the Casino. In the end we were up $40.00 on the slots. Whoo hala! | ||
